WATUMISHI Housing Company (WHC) and Kibaha Education Centre (KEC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which the centre will allocate 250 acres for the construction of houses for public servants.

WHC Managing Director, Mr Fred Msemwa, speaking shortly before sealing the MoU, said effective next month the company would construct 1,150 houses in five different phases for sale to public servants at the most affordable terms.

He said WHC was established to implement five core functions, including construction of new buildings, rehabilitation or improvement of buildings for rental or other purposes, carrying out the business of property management as well as to operate a Public Servants Housing Scheme (PSHS).

“Our investment aimed at benefiting public servants situated at KEC and other Kibaha residents as it will facilitate availability of different social and economic services which are currently missing in the area,” he said.

He said that the project would lead to improved economic condition of the residents, provide employment opportunities to ever 500 people as well as increase revenue to Kibaha Town Council through land and housing taxes.

The WHC director added that they were finalising the process to construct over a hundred houses in different regions including Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Arusha, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Morogoro, Mtwara, Dodoma, Lindi and Mbeya, adding that the projects would kick off in January, next year.

“We are committed to facilitating and enabling public servants and the general public own homes under mortgage arrangement and participate in profitable real estate investment while operating on sound fund management principles,” he added.

The event was also attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Local Government and Regional Administration, Ms Hawa Ghasia, who called on public servants to purchase the houses, adding that they would be able to buy houses in any region of the country.

She also urged the firm to go to other regions in order to enable all public servants enjoy affordable and decent housing.



“This will be an addition to government efforts in ensuring that good housing and settlements are available to all public servants and the general public,” she said, adding that the government would keep supporting WHC project by facilitating the availability of land for other projects.
