THE shilling has weakened to fresh record lows due to a myriad of challenges, including US dollar strengthening and fears associated with general election risks in October.

The local currency depreciated to lowest levels after it crossed the 1,900/- mark for the first time since the shilling was introduced some 50 years ago.

CRDB Bank says the shilling ended the last week on a wrong footing opening at 1900/1910 and closing at 1910/1920 ‘a record breaking’ levels against the US dollar - a major trading currency in the country.

DAR ES SALAAM is the largest city in eastern Africa in terms of population and an ever growing important economic hub.

However, while the city is expanding fast, a few investors now have their eyes on Kigamboni, which was for many years ago, not regarded as better place to invest let alone living.

The notion protruded from the fact that the area is now connected to the Dar es Salaam Business District when crossing a creek by means of a pontoon thus scaring some while complicate others movements.

Before Resident Magistrate Nyigulila Mwaseba, State Attorney Janethrosa Kitali told the court that the case had been brought for mention.

TANZANIA Education Authority (TEA) have implemented a total of 1,571 projects worth 39bn/- through the Education Fund between 2003 and last year, the authority board Chairperson, Dr Naomi Katunzi, has said.

Dr Katunzi was briefing the Deputy Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Ms Anne Kilango, who visited the TEA offices to inspect the operations of the authority.

Dr Katunzi said that though the operations of the authority are known by the public and its stakeholders, hence the numerous number of funding requests that are received. Last year 3,594 applications were submitted asking for 264.2bn/-.

WATUMISHI Housing Company (WHC) and Kibaha Education Centre (KEC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which the centre will allocate 250 acres for the construction of houses for public servants.
